February 21 2014

Got out today with good friend and fellow angler Gordy Grasser. With most of the rivers here in SW Washington dropping but still to high to fish it was a good chance to look at new water. We ended up at the Naselle River looking for a put in, given there is no boat launch we felt fortunate to find this place to slide in over the bank. Though we won't be back this winter, we will definitely be back this fall to fish coho.
With the way rivers are dropping we should be back on the water Monday!

Local waters are still to high and off color to fish but the forecast looks much dryer so hopefully this weekend conditions will be favorable. Spent today tieing steelhead jigs, these are 1/4 oz tied on a 1/0 hook with rabbit. If you need some for you arsenal get with me...

We are seeing a break in the rain this morning but another storm is moving in. Most rivers in the area are high wide and muddy. The Cowlitz River is in great shape as well as the Skookumchuck.

FINALLY temperatures are on the rise and the roads were clear enough we could get on the water. Still plenty of snow keeping everyone at home leaving the entire river to us. We went 2 for 3 with this gorgeous hatchery fish being the nicest of the day. Looking forward to some GREAT steelhead fishing over the next month!

Mother nature has not been kind to us here in this corner of the Pacific Northwest, we've been off the water for too long now temperatures are going to warm up but heavy rain is in the forecast and that's a perfect recipe for flooding!

Severe winter weather is hammering down on the area of the Pacific Northwest. Took advantage of the day OFF the water to get caught up on some jig tying.

February 4 2014

An approaching cold front made for a tough day on the water. We hit one small hatchery steelhead today back trolling a K9 Kwikfish. With the threat of very cold temps and the possibility of snow accumulation we've canceled trips for the next few days.

February 3 2014

I light dusting of snow fell as we drove through the dark to meet with anglers Greg and Randy to spend the day chasing winter steelhead. It was a beautiful day as temperatures rose to the lower 40s and the sun poked through. We fish bobber and jigs today,  hooking 3 steelhead and landing just one wild fish that was released.

Woke this morning to freezing temperatures. Cold water can make for a tough bite especially when its a bit on the high side the choice to fish a pink worm under a float paid off with this amazing photo. ...

Fished hard today on the Kalama River, the weather was beautiful which brought every steelhead angler in the area out for the day. The bite was tough for most, the only action we seen was breaking off a big beautiful king ,was it an early springer or stray winter Chinook? I guess we'll never no........
